Tuesday Ten #1
I'm sure you have had one of those days where it seems like nothing is going your way. Then when you think all is lost you look back and realize it wasn't that bad, right? Today wasn't like that.
I have been stressing over my computer for the last two days because it keeps saying the storage is full, when it definitely is not. Everything takes six times as long to do and some apps don't even open. Perfect timing as always, when I really need to get things done. So for this Tuesday Ten I'm going to start off with some personal reviews and move on to movies and sci-fi.
iCloud vs. Google Drive
I recently got reaquainted with Apple back in April. I would say my overall iPhone experience is great! Constant updates, messages showing on top of keyboard, the usual. But after I realized I needed more storage I compared my options and realized Apple was the best option providing 2TB of storage for only $9.99 per month! I'm in the US so this price varies by country but compared to Google Drive's 1TB for $9.99 per month, you would think you'd be getting a great deal.
Now I'm not here to slam Apple and it could partially be my computer (though unlikely since it is largely dependent on internet speed) , I 90% regret my decision.
Uploading the 60GB of files has taken over a week. And it hasn't even really downloaded files until today, before that it was just folders. Empty folders.
Temporary Solution: I still have 115 GB free on Google Drive that came with my V10. I moved some files there until my computer gets out of shock or iCloud decides to upload the files. Yes, I've tried updating and yes I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but the last option deletes all the files moved.
Google Drive is also 6 times faster. I'm talking one hour to move and upload "Westworld" in HD. The entire season!
I don't know how many of you have seen the magic of AWOLNATION live, but you need to. ASAP. And crowd surf because you might get a specialty T-Shirt.
The Mummy (2017)
I know this movie is a remake of a remake, but I can't help but watch Tom Cruise in another action movie! It may be cheesey and fell flat in box office, but other than the next movie on this last st, there aren't a whole lot of other movies I want to see that are currently in theaters.
Also, this movie is supposed to be one in a collection of stories following villains in upcoming Universal Studios productions.
The Book of Henry (2017)
I haven't seen this movie yet, and after seeing one trailer I can't wait to. This is another movie coming out that's based on a book and it's a thriller.
I hope it doesn't disappoint like the following movie.
It Comes at Night (2017)
Where the trailer for The Book of Henry looks semi-suspenseful, the trailer for this movie instilled excitement and fear. At least, that is what I thought before I saw the movie.
Horrribly, horribly disappointing. Yeah it was artful, if that's what you like. But the entire time you're hoping for something to happen or show up. Unless you were expecting it you may end up like me: angry and frustrated.
But if you like suspense this movie may hold you until the last moment.
Wonder Woman (2017)
I am not going to add an external link for this movie. Even if you weren't even vaguely interested in this film you've either heard about it or have seen the trailer.
I understand what the movie was going for. However, this movie held the same flaw to me as Interstellar (2014): the main theme. Just like Interstellar we are supposed to believe this force can destroy anything that comes in its way. Which may be true, but it certainly doesn't happen over such a rapid period of time.
There are quite a few clichés, though not as bad as some recent Disney action movies. But for my Wonder Woman comic fans out there, who know the ups and downs of Diana Prince and Steve Trevor, maybe you're like me and wished for more.
My boy Jake Gyllenhaal made a semi-comeback in this movie. Perfect spacey, alien thriller for those of you who were disappointed by Alien: Covenant (2017), this may satisfy that empty space. Definitely appreciated Ryan Reynolds role, no matter how short lived.
Released June 20th on DVD you can find this movie many places online.
"A Treasury of Irish Fairy and Folk Tales"
I got this book on sale at Barnes and Noble and have not regretted it. It's an entire collection of Irish folk tales based off the author's knowledge, history and research as well as talking to people in those specific cities. It has definitely assisted me in writing Celtic inspired fantasy stories.
Finding beauties like this is another reason I still love brick in mortar stores. May not always find what you need, but sometimes the very thing you want.
Samuel R. Delany novels
I do plan on returning to reading this and updating my reading list this week. The problem is accessing my website to do such things is a slight challenge at the moment.
"Muse" by Kylie Quillinan
This is the book I have switched to reading. Hoping it's a fast read and I can do a review on it soon as it revolves around Celtic mythology. It is definitely written more for the modern reader than a couple other books I've tried. The other books try to hard to read like old English and it becomes distracting. This book doesn't do that.
The book revolves around a bard who is the seventh son of the seventh son. And as such, his tales are more powerful than a normal born bard. He has a Muse, Ida who rules the other half of his head, and he goes on a journey that is more dangerous than either expected.
Thats my own synopsis, but it is rather interesting so far.
Got ten summer movies or books you're looking forward to? Let me know in the comments below.
